Just completed the training and background checks to become a volunteer for Red Cross shelters in the event of emergency events. Will get my ID and vest tomorrow.  So now I am inserted into CERT and Red Cross for disaster stuff. Will I perform radio operations in these capacities?  Time will tell ...

a nice little perk of being a Red Cross volunteer is that the fee for the training  courses the Red Cross offers is waived (for example, the $37 fee for the online first aid course, as well as CPR and others) ... so far the local leadership I have met are decent people and I am looking fwd to interacting with them.  Now I can mingle in local challenges that befall the lowcountry  wearing either a CERT vest, or a Red Cross vest.  Am hoping that will be rare

Just completed the Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED training, and am now qualified to transport/operate the Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) which is used to transport/serve hot meals to folks in times of disaster.

just donated blood with the Red Cross ... there was a test for A1C included, and it confirmed what I already knew... I am still a diabetic type 2 ... but the other tests were negative ... no HIV, or Hepatitis and a couple other things so all is good ... blood pressure good as well ... so a mini lab workup for a pint of blood, not a bad deal (homemade cookies were available, and different drinks)
